LPRFC Home

Welcome to the home of LPRFC, the rugby club at the heart of Chicago's lakefront. One of the longest established clubs in the Midwest, we offer competitive rugby mixed with a strong social element in a prime location to players of all levels and abilities.

LPRFC Team picture Currently playing in Division II of the Midwest region, Lincoln Park is a former National Championship runner-up and in recent years has been a regular qualifier for the Midwest playoffs. We offer two full sides each week throughout the season and are a club that works to blend players with many years of experience with those new to the sport. Whether you are an experienced rugby player moving to the Chicago area or perhaps a sportsman looking for a new challenge, we have time for you. Whilst predominantly made up of US born players, we have in recent years been represented by players from England, Scotland, Spain, Argentina, Ireland, Uruguay and Germany.

Both our training pitch and match day fields are located central to Chicago's northside neighbourhoods (Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Gold Coast) and are within a relatively short distance of public transportation.

While maintaining a competitive team on the pitch, we pride ourselves on our off the field social scene. Cubs rooftop outings, Xmas Bowling, pub crawls are just a small sample of events we have organised over the last year. And to begin each new year is our major fundraising event, the Formal Banquet, where this past year we had over 130 guests in attendance.

Every two years the club organises a Tour to foreign lands, the most recent of which saw us visit Madrid and Salamanca in central Spain. Over the course of our history, the club has accepted the generous hospitality of ruggers the world over, including visits to Brazil, Mexico, I Ireland, England, Wales and Czech Republic. In return we have a played welcome hosts to touring sides visiting the shores of Lake Michigan, including teams from England, Canada, Wales, and other US cities. Wrexham from Wales had such a good time that they came back.

Please explore the site and hopefully you will find a little more about us and the sport of rugby. Almost the whole site is available to you as a guest, but signing in as a member allows greater collaboration, such as leaving a comment to certain articles or participating in the forum topics. If there are further questions, do not hesitate to contact us.

Finally a little quote, which to those who play this sport will ring true as to just why they do.

"If athletics is the Queen of sport, Rugby is its King."

"There has to be something giving Rugby the power, which enabled it to grow worldwide. Something creating the relationship, the unity among all Rugby players known in few other sports. It seems like a reflection of the basic human fight to survive, which was effective only if the maximum power and wisdom of the individuals was united and concentrated. The simplest Rugby philosophy is to play with no mercy, with maximum power against all opponents, no matter if they are the closest friends. After the end of the match, there is always enough time for some friendly relaxation and an untimed third half."
